Do you think this deserved the Tony over Avenue Q?

It was a hard call. Both Wicked and Avenue Q had a great cast recording. Wicked's was POWERFUL while Ave.Q was PLAYFUL, WITTY and CREATIVE.
I think the Tony went to the music from Q for those very reasons, and ADULT HOUMOR FROM PUPPETS!

Yet, The Tony for Best Musical should have gone to WICKED!

i thought wicked was ingenious in its way, but far short of the rogers and hammerstein masterpieces of yesterday--every song distinctive, creative, different!

they say the tony's are boning up to be a "really big shew" this year--hugh jackman coming in from australia, etc.

I couldn't agree with you more on songs sounding the same. That's why I usually listen to older shows, I even enjoy revival cast recordings of early musicals.

Hugh will not be hosting the Tonys this year. Instead they will have a number of people making the presentations, including Oprah (see bought The Color Purple) and Julia Roberts, who showed up in a play that received poor reviews, but again,a "name" sells tickets.

Sorta sad when you think of all the out of work gifted actors in NYC waiting on tables.
